Oil Painting

Morning Sunshine
Morning Sunshine

12 x 24 This was inspired by my interpretation of a woman rising from the water like a Venus on warm sunny day. It was underpainted in pink to make the flesh tones rosy. Delicate highlights make it feel like the rays of sun are on her skin.

Flying puppy
Flying puppy

12 x 24 This idea was inspired by a dream where my pet pekingese dog flew into a circle of fire to be with me out of loyalty.  I used a black background to highlight the purity and whiteness.

Selfie
Selfie

30 x 24 This painting was inspired by the Odyssey and giving it a twist with the modern day word “Selfie,” I wanted to depict how the one eyed monster of vanity is overexposed.  The pale lights indicate the overuse of flash photography and the cupids are flying around like bothersome flies.

The Mermaid and her pet
The Mermaid and her pet

30 x 24 This is the sister painting of Selfie also inspired by the Odyssey.  I gave the mermaid a pensive look while she’s doing something relatively mundane as being in the water and petting her pet, showing how we can all fantasize about life even in the simplest of situations.

Tyrants, they think they rule the world
Tyrants, they think they rule the world

18 x 24 in a bronze frame. This is a portrait of my son.  It depicts a giant toddler being a menace to a city with a burning sky.  My son and any child can be a challenge and at times I felt he was taking over my life like a dictator threatening to ruin and destroy everything! At the time my son had a Godzilla fetish so the theme suited him quite well.

Love in Paris
Love in Paris

12 x 24 This painting was a challenge in perspective.  I originally was going to enter it in a contest to win a trip to Paris so the theme was clearly influenced by the contest. I added luminosity at nighttime and plenty of movement from the cars and the people moving from one side to the next.

Silently Angry
Silently Angry

8 x 8 This was an exercise in a technique that uses gray tones to underpaint.  I also wanted to test my skills at painting smaller than what I am accustomed and being able to be detailed.  I explored the strength and silence with my composition as it seems hard to stay in control when you are angry.

Secretly Demure
Secretly Demure

8 x 8 This again was an exercise in painting small.  It had to do with a dream where I was buying small canvas on sale. I was told to try and do portraits and thought about asian themes in my dream. This was the result.
